Wonder, explore, imagine!

Hacettepe Children's University is a joyful world of learning where science, art and play join hands and every child discovers the inventor within.

About
who are we?

Who Are We? · What Is a Children's University?

Hacettepe Children's University was founded to introduce children early to the university's world of knowledge, experiment and discovery. This is not a school but a vast garden of curiosity: a place where questions are asked with courage, where “what if”s are chased, and where learning is intertwined with play.

A children's university is not merely a place children visit; it is a learning environment where they grow safely alongside real academics and educators, experiment, design, take the stage and enjoy learning together. Our aim is not to have children memorize, but to nurture curiosity, grow imagination and help every child say “I can do it.”

Rector of Hacettepe University

Dear children, esteemed parents,

One of a university's most precious duties is not only to produce knowledge, but to open it to curious eyes, questioning minds and dreaming children. We see it as a valuable opportunity for children to encounter the very idea of the university at an early age and to shape their vision of the future accordingly, and we offer this opportunity to our children. The Children's University is a concrete expression of this vision, through which we open our doors to the pioneers of the future. Here our children meet real scientists; they grow safely, explore, and come to know their own potential.

For Hacettepe University, which has always made it a principle to turn its deep-rooted scientific tradition into public benefit, investing in children's curiosity and potential is the most meaningful investment in the future. With this awareness, we consider it an important duty to prepare our children for the future with a sense of responsibility, in a safe environment where knowledge meets art, curiosity meets science, and learning meets ethical values.

With this belief, I warmly invite all our children and their families to this journey of discovery.

Respectfully, Prof. Dr. Mehmet Cahit Güran · Rector of Hacettepe University

Our Coordinator

Dear children, esteemed parents,

Welcome to Hacettepe Children's University! This is a garden of curiosity; a place where questions are asked with courage, where “what if”s are pursued, and where the scientist, artist and inventor within every child join hands.

We believe that within every child there is a natural curiosity and a unique potential to explore and learn. Our role is to nurture that sparkling curiosity by providing the right environment and guidance — turning the laboratory into a playground, a question into an adventure, and a mistake into a new discovery. Our door is wide open to curious eyes, paint-covered hands and endless “why”s.

Because we believe that a child's curiosity, just like the flutter of a butterfly's wings, can set off a great transformation across generations.

Questions from the World of Science
but why?

Questions from the World of Science

The questions little explorers wonder about most, with tiny hints. Tap to see the answer!

🌌 Why is the sky blue?
Sunlight actually carries all colors within it. When this light hits tiny particles in the air, blue scatters the most in every direction — and that's why our eyes see the sky as blue!
🦋 How do butterflies fly?
Butterflies flap their wings not just up and down but in a figure-eight motion. This special movement pushes the air and keeps them aloft, and their light bodies make flying easier.
🌊 Why is the sea salty?
Rainwater dissolves tiny salt grains inside rocks and carries them to the sea through rivers. The water evaporates in the sun, but the salt stays behind. Having built up over millions of years, the sea becomes salty!
🌱 What do plants feed on?
Plants catch sunlight with their leaves and, using what they take from the air and soil, make their own food. This is called “photosynthesis” — cooking with light!
🌙 Why does the Moon change shape?
The Moon doesn't change shape; we simply see the part the Sun lights up from different angles on Earth. As the Moon orbits us, it looks now like a thin sliver, now like a big ball.
🧲 Why do magnets attract?
There is an invisible force field around a magnet. When some metals like iron enter this field, they are pulled toward the magnet. It looks like magic — but it's science!

New questions and answers can be added here easily. We can also feature questions sent by children!
